Polymer Clay Jewelry Creations

Posted by designsbymrk at 12:53 AM on May 20, 2009

I have been recently working more and more with polymer clay.  It is truly a versatile sculpting compound, where the possibilities are endless as to what you can design and create with it.  I will have some stretch bracelets and one design line I am so thrilled about which I am calling The New American Native, as I feel it has a truly unique, possibly diverse cultural feel to the piece itself.  It is quite an eye catcher!

I have designed and created the cabonchon to match the beautiful Amazonite stones that Mother Earth has designed and created.  I also created the accent beads and gold disks with mica that flank each, as well as the matching clasp.  After baking the clay pieces and allowing them to cure, I hand sand each piece to ensure a high luster when I finish up with a machine buffing, which also brings up the mica in the gold polymer clay.  It is quite a substantial piece but, not too heavy of a necklace.  I have used multiple strands of fine brass wire which are very strong, and creative brass o-rings for the cabochon to connect with the rest of the necklace, as it is quite a durable piece as well.
